The Future of Yemen: Elevating Local Strategies on the Path to Peace
The ongoing conflict in Yemen is a pressing global issue, making it an excellent topic for this year’s conference. It is a multifaceted conflict involving a humanitarian crisis, regional instability, and complex geopolitics. This allows delegates to explore many solutions, within the mandate of the UNSC.
Terrorism, migration, and regional power dynamics are also components of this issue which makes it possible to link it to the conference theme of “enhanced global security, underscoring the importance of international cooperation.”
The presence of various stakeholders (from regional powers to international actors) provides room for interesting negotiations and compromises during the conference week.
Lastly, the topic can motivate new, original peace-building strategies: the conflict in Yemen has been going on for years and there is a base for delegates to work on solutions, which they can use to build new solutions in a “creative” manner.
